The Young and Hopeless
By Good Charlotte

I feel like I should have a song title for this entry, but for some reason the only songs that run through my head when thinking of the word "moving" are "Moving on Up" and "Move Along", neither of which fit the current situation, or mood.

The thing about moving is..........I hate packing.

Packing is more of a realization of self.  You discover so many things that you never quite took into consideration before.  Examples are:

Why on earth do I have 12 dinner plates, 18 side plates, and about 22 bowls?  There is only one of me.

Do I really need 14 coffee mugs/tea cups?

Is there a reason that I have collected 5 cable hookup cords?  I have two TV's, not 5.  And why do I even have 2 TV's? Once again, there is only one of me.

I need an entire box in order to pack my shoes.  It's a big box, too, and I packed my shoes tightly.

I have the attention span of one box/area/packing genre.  That means that I will complete one entire box/small area in the apartment/or genre of belongings before I need a distraction.  For example, I will pack all of my shoes, pack pictures, go through papers, etc. before I have to either send a MySpace/Facebook message, getting to talk to my favorite SHS Senior on the phone, eat something, or watch some TV before returning to packing.

Moral of the story, is that I have a lot of stuff.  I need to downsize, but I'm not.  Instead I'm packing everything right back up only to unpack and let it all sit in my loft apartment, which I guess is all right seeing as my new apartment is the same size as this one.  So, I'm here on my last night in Midwest City drinking Seattle's Best, making me think about Suzanne since she spent her summer in Seattle, and listening to old school Good Charlotte, which makes me think of Julie because she hates them except for one song which is memorable because we usually have the same taste in music...except this.  I still have a TON of packing to do, which makes me think that I should have had Kyle come over to yell at me any time I tried to do something else, such as write this blog entry.  Oh well, such is life.

Other happenings in life:

I love fall because fall means football.  While my favorite team has seen better years, I still eat and breathe the stuff.  What helps make football season even better?  Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to the Malibu Macaws (aka my fantasy team for this season) which is currently 3-0 and in first place out of 12.  A mighty thanks to the Raven's defense, LJ, Favre, Driver, Cotchery, Plaxico, Carney and many other supporting actors. I doubt I'll end the season this way, but I'm gonna take it for now.

There was this totally awesome event......what was it? Oh, yes, the Flaming Lips concert.  I think one of the most amazing musical moments of my life was singing along with everyone and their mother at the concert when they played "Yoshimi", which is one of my favorite songs ever.  I was quite disappointed to have to miss Kings of Leon, but there will be other times and other concerts.  (That's James and me before the concert...I don't remember why he wanted the trash can in the picture...but for some reason he did...)

Then there was this other event that happened, which was kind of a big deal...well, okay, so it was big.  Bigger than the Lips.  What was that?  The wedding of one of my best friends, the lovely Megan Kathleen (Kelly) DeShazo.  It was beautiful, she was beautiful, and most importantly, the happiest I've ever seen her, which is what means the most to me.  It also marked the last time to see Abby before Africa takes her away from me.  I'm starting to get bitter towards other countries...it started with Asia...and now Africa....and I guess that Kevin and Cornell aren't countries, but they still get a little bitterness because they took the other two away .  (And, in reality, I guess they could all argue that I've been taken away by just as many things, but this is my blog so those things don't count...you can't fault me for loving and missing my friends, can you?)

The one of the current traditions we have going on right now?  Thursday night is bowling night.  It's a serious thing.  Every Thursday from 9-Midnight you can find most of our crew at the lovely Penn 44 working on our game.  Well, we don't really go with the intention of working on our game, it just ends up that way.  I do have a new high of 169, and my average might be up to 140 when I actually try to bowl...which would be cool if the guys weren't starting to get up to 200...but, I blame that on the fact I haven't been in the last two weeks.

All right, kids, I've gotta get this packing done......thanks for the distraction.

Silence Is Easy

I made a discovery the other day that I wanted to share.  My discovery is one of the most beautiful songs I think I have ever heard.  It's one of those songs that you're never qulite the same after listening to, though you can't really describe how.  I must give credit to to the wonderful taste of Cody Ingram, seeing as I found the song on his MySpace sight.  I always seem to find some new song I never knew about that I end up really liking from his profile...but, back to this particular song, it's called "Bird Song" by the Sheree Chamberlain band.  Check it out here:  http://www.myspace.com/thesherreechamberlainband . If you don't like it....well...then I guess we just have different tastes.

Other songs that are on my playlist right now:  One Republic's "Apologize", Kill Hannah's "Believer", The Killer's "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll", Garrison Starr's "Beautiful Los Angeles", A Perfect Circle's "Blue", Muse's "Knights of Cydonia"

My other project that is almost finished:

Your Life: The Soundtrack

Opening credits: Blue - A Perfect Circle
Waking up: American Girl - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Average day: Helicopter - Bloc Party
First date: Goodnight and Go - Imogen Heap
Falling in love: Calling You - Blue October
Love scene: Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Fight scene: Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off - Panic! At the Disco
Breaking Up: Don't Go Away - Oasis
Bitter Aftermath: No Hard Feelings - The Bloodhound Gang
Getting back together: The Scientist - Coldplay
Secret Love: Endlessly - Muse
Driving In the Sun: You're So Damn Hot - OK Go
Driving in the Rain: Creep - Radiohead
Life is Good: Float On - Modest Mouse
Mental breakdown: Where is my Mind? - Pixies
Learning a lesson: Every You Every Me - Placebo
Pondering Life: Vindicated - Dashboard Confessional
On A Mission: Miss Murder - AFI
Flashback: Everyone's Beautiful - Waterdeep
Losing A Friend: Hurt - Johnny Cash
Night on the Town/Partying: Do You Want To - Franz Ferdinand
Happy Moment: Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll - The Killers
Regret: Honest Mistake - The Bravery
Long night alone: Holiday In Spain - Counting Crows
Death scene: You're Beautiful - James Blunt
Closing credits: Melissa - Allman Brothers

I keep playing around with some of the categories, but I almost have it perfected.  There are just a couple of songs that I'm not completely happy with....so, I'd say it's 90% finished.  I'll put the official copy up when I'm finished.

Things are going well in the "Wonderful World of Melissa."  Megan is almost married!  How exciting is that?!?  I have a beautiful, red bridesmaid dress sitting in my closet that can't wait to get worn.  It seems to crazy that so much time has passed and that it's already here!  The bachelorette party was quite the production, courtesy of Tessa and Kinsey, and it was wonderful to see Abby for the second time this summer.

With the wedding coming up, that means that it's almost time for me to leave my little niche in Midwest City.  While I will be quite upset to be moving away from Sara, it will be nice to be on the Southside close to......well, everyone except Sara.  Check your email boxes sometime within the next month for my address change!

Speaking of email, it has come to my attention that I haven't been receiving all of my emails...there isn't a consistent pattern, and I only figure it out when someone says "Hey, did you get my email?" and I say "Nope, sure didn't."  So, if you have sent anything to me that you felt was important or warranted a reply and didn't get one, please take this into consideration...I promise I'm not ignoring you or going into "friends off" mode.  If you think you fall into this category, your best bet is to send me a message on MySpace or Facebook...because, well, I think everyone in the entire world between the ages of 20-25 has at least one, if not both, of those forms of communication.

Everything else is doing all right.  Nothing to complain about, at least off hand.  I'm either working or hanging out with my friends...and, well, since most of my friends I work with, I'm usually doing both at the same time.

I guess I'll close for now....well, I say "for now" but that will probably mean at least a couple weeks from now, if not longer.  Upcoming events for future post topics:  Megan's wedding (obvious), moving into my new apartment (also obvious), next month's Flaming Lips concert, Sunday night poker nights, the upcoming NFL season (and if we ever get our fantasy league together), and other random happenings around the city.

Stay tuned.

Oh No

Dear American Congress:

Thank you so much for putting up such a great fight on the issue of whether or not we should be able to burn the American flag.  I do not agree with the passing of the amendment, seeing as I view this action and those like it as a political freedom that should not be taken away, but it still makes me feel very good about our legislative system that such a great amount of your time was spent on this.  I also thank you for allowing me to see that my priority system has been out of wack....here I thought the more pressing issues were things like high gas prices, that little skirmish going on with the middle east, or even the immigration situation....(you know, things that deal with people, not objects).....but, no, apparently the "protection" of our American flag needs to be dealt with before other solutions are made.  Thank you for once again proving the greatness of the American political system.

Your Friend,
Melissa
